Meet Our Professors-in-Residence

At Pacific, Professors-in-Residence help bridge the experience of learning in the classroom with living and learning on campus. These faculty members live in residence halls and engage with students through mentorship, informal conversations, programs and community activities.

By being an active part of residential life, Pacific's Professors-in-Residence help create supportive living-learning communities where students can build connections, explore new ideas and grow academically and personally. Their presence reflects Pacific's commitment to close faculty-student relationships and an engaging, student-centered campus experience.

Mentoring Students

Students can meet with their professor-in-residence one-on-one or connect through informal conversations for guidance on academic and personal challenges. They can also receive help finding campus resources that support their development and success.

Throughout the year, the professors organize and curate special events that support students’ academic, cultural and intellectual well-being, including day trips, engaging activities and educational panels.

Dr. Jackie Smith-Ratliff

Smith-Ratliff is an assistant professor of practice at Pacific's Benerd College and a licensed marriage and family therapist with more than 25 years of experience in mental and behavioral health. As a Professor-in-Residence, they help foster welcoming and supportive communities in Southwest Hall and McCaffrey Center where students can build meaningful relationships, develop a sense of belonging and thrive throughout their college experience.

Dr. Jeffrey Hole

Dr. Hole is a scholar, educator and institutional innovator whose work explores the future of higher education and the evolving needs of today's students. As the inaugural director of First-Year Experience at Pacific and Professor-in-Residence for Grace Covell Hall, he helps cultivate a welcoming community that supports students' academic, social and personal development.

Dr. Houman Kamran Habibkhani

Dr. Kamran Habibkhani is an assistant professor of Computer Science whose teaching and research span computer vision, machine learning, image processing and pattern recognition. As Professor-in-Residence for Calaveras Hall and Theta Chi, they look forward to supporting students through academic guidance, community gatherings and informal study breaks that create opportunities to connect over shared meals, technology, current events and cinema.
