In addition to the Master of Arts in Education, Learning Innovation and Design, educators currently holding a CA teaching credential may choose to earn a supplemental teaching credential authorization.

Note: MAEd Learning, Innovation and Design students seeking supplemental teaching credential authorizations must meet all other California Teaching Credential (CCTC) requirements in addition to coursework listed and CSETS. Students are required to apply for supplemental credential authorizations directly with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).

The Master of Arts in Education in Learning, Innovation and Design at University of the Pacific is an accelerated graduate program for current and emerging leaders who want to improve teaching, learning and educational systems. Students apply learning theory, creativity, Design Thinking and Liberatory Design to develop practical solutions in schools, communities and other organizational settings.

Students can earn the MA in Education in Learning, Innovation and Design in 12 months. The accelerated format is designed for professionals who want to build advanced skills in educational innovation and leadership on a focused timeline.

Yes. The MA in Education in Learning, Innovation and Design is offered fully online, allowing students to complete their degree remotely while participating in an interactive graduate learning experience.

This program is well suited for educators, instructional leaders, administrators, learning designers, community leaders and professionals who want to create meaningful change in learning environments. It is designed for people who want to reimagine teaching and learning in K–12 schools, higher education, community-based settings and other organizations.

Design Thinking is a human-centered approach to solving problems. In education, it helps leaders and practitioners understand the needs of learners and communities, generate ideas, test solutions and improve learning experiences through an iterative process. The program uses Design Thinking to help students create practical, responsive approaches to educational challenges.

Liberatory Design is an approach to design and problem solving that centers equity, inclusion and the experiences of people most affected by a challenge. In the MA in Learning, Innovation and Design program, students use this perspective to examine dominant norms, support more equitable learning environments and pursue meaningful systems change.

Yes. The program uses a project-based curriculum that connects coursework to real-world practice. Students work on culminating projects and may engage with clients in real-world settings, applying learning, leadership and innovation concepts to authentic challenges.

Graduates may use the degree to advance or pivot into roles involving educational leadership, instructional design, curriculum and learning-experience design, program development, professional learning, community-based education or organizational learning. The program is intended to strengthen the ability to lead change across schools, higher education, community organizations and other learning-focused environments.

No. While the degree is relevant to K–12 educators, it is also designed for professionals working in higher education, community organizations and other settings where learning takes place. The program focuses broadly on learning design, leadership and innovation rather than on one educational sector alone.

The program welcomes students seeking remote learning; however, University of the Pacific states that the program cannot support F-1 visas for international students. Prospective international applicants should contact the University for guidance about their individual eligibility and enrollment circumstances.

The MA in Learning, Innovation and Design emphasizes innovation, creativity, design methods and educational change. Rather than focusing only on traditional classroom practice, the program prepares students to examine systems, design learning experiences and lead change across a range of educational and organizational contexts.
