Sustainability Project Investment Fund (SPIF)

SPIF Applications Now Open Through Feb. 12, 2020

In fiscal year 2012, University of the Pacific established a fund to support projects that contribute to advancing sustainability focused practices and learning opportunities at Pacific. The Sustainability Project Investment Fund (SPIF) is currently available for projects at any Pacific campus (Stockton, Sacramento, San Francisco) through a competitive application process. Goals of the SPIF fund are to:

  • Support activities that reduce resource use, energy consumption, and waste or pollution generation;
  • Invest in projects that have measurable economic, social or environmental benefits; and
  • Support sustainability-related education, engagement, and outreach activities consistent with the university mission.

Application Information

  • The SPIF Fund is open to faculty, staff and students to apply.
  • STUDENT applications are accepted through December 6, 2019, with funding available January-June 2020.
  • STUDENT, STAFF & FACULTY applications are accepted through Feb. 12, 2020, with funding available beginning July 2020. Submission details are included on the Application Form.
  • If all you have is an idea, we still want to hear from you! Complete the Pre-Application Form and a Committee member will contact you to help answer questions about the process and project development.  
  • To apply, complete the following steps in order.  
  • Applications are reviewed and selected by the Sustainability Committee.

Project Ideas

  • Build an app! For locating campus fruit trees, exchanging goods via virtual marketplace for Pacificans, engaging people in daily habits that support sustainability, etc. 
  • Zero waste items to give to new and current students at the University, such as reusable coffee cups, utensils, menstrual cups or straws.
