June 2020 — 360 Tour

Library’s north entrance to close for construction

The north entrance to the William Knox Holt Library and Learning Center will be closed from April 21 to July 15 for the Library Plaza Renovation Project. Please use the south entrance on Brubeck Way for building access.

As part of the library renovation project, the north entrance plaza will be redesigned to encourage mindfulness and will continue to include a water feature. Upon completion, the project will result in a visually rich transition from the Memorial Columns and Knoles Lawn into the library.

Student Welcome Event

On Thursday, Jan. 30, the Library hosted a celebratory event for our Pacific students to mark the reopening of the 2nd Floor Reading Commons.

It was a huge success. Gate count for the event (north and south entrances) was 3,678 entry/exits. In the past few months, we averaged 500 entry/exits a day. We handed out 5,000+ raffle tickets, gained 100+ new social media followers, had 188 submitted scavenger hunts, and gave out 20 raffle prizes ranging from $5 Starbucks gift cards to a Nintendo Switch ($300).

Students were thrilled — primarily with the food and the prizes! — but we also received some complimentary comment cards on the reopening of the 2nd floor in our Feedback boxes:

  1. This place is AMAZING!
  2. I LOVE what you’ve done to this place. Beautiful. Thank you to all who worked on this great library for all their hard work and sacrifice. Truly Amazing.

If you haven’t come by to check it out yet, make sure you take the time! Or in the meantime, check out our saved Instagram Stories of the event by clicking here or watch the Cube created video below.

January 2020

Phase II of the Library construction is almost complete! Carpet installation was completed. Furniture has started arriving and installation on the second floor will finish by the end of the month. The central elevator has been placed back into service and can now be used for access to the Garden Level, First, and Second floors. There will be a Welcome Back event for students as soon as final inspection from the city is completed. Students will have the opportunity to play games, snap pics in a photo booth, enjoy snacks and enter to win prizes throughout the day. More information will be available on the library website and social media. We cannot wait for the Library to be operating at full capacity again and look forward to welcoming back our users to all the renovated floors soon!

December 2019

We are well on our way to wrap up renovation of the 2nd and 3rd floors in January 2020. New light fixtures and fire sprinklers have been installed and painting was completed. Carpet installation will begin during the week of Dec. 30 and furniture is expected to arrive in early January. The café (Starbucks) construction has begun and is expected to be completed in March 2020.

Students will be able to use the newly opened sections by late January, when the library will welcome them with a student event. Details of the welcome event will be made available in January.

The library appreciates all 112 suggestions and comments that students provided via two feedback boxes on the first and second floors, web form, email, or in-person. We responded to them and look forward to a continued conversation with students about their expectations and space needs. Thank you for your recent positive feedback. Your comments are helping us make the library a better space to study, learn and create. We look forward to sharing the renovated spaces with you when they reopen in January.
