Professor Emeritus Lynn Beck Brallier || March 21, 2024

Lynn Beck Brallier was a professor and dean of the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education, known today as Benerd College. She retired from the University of the Pacific in 2017 but remains involved as an emerita faculty and through her work with outreach efforts and with graduate students completing research projects. Dr. Beck Brallier is the author of eight books and numerous chapters and articles and the recipient of awards recognizing her leadership and service.

Dr. Terry Maple is the author of 12 books, including Zoo Man, an autobiography detailing the early years of his career as a zoo director, and Professor in the Zoo. Dr. Maple is best known for his visionary leadership in revitalizing Atlanta’s city zoo. During Dr. Maple's 18-year tenure as CEO, Zoo Atlanta became recognized as one of the world's most innovative zoological parks.

Most recently, he argued against the Trump Administration’s rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (“DACA”).

Dr. Sakena Yacoobi `77 `07 is an award-winning social innovator and founder/director of the Afghan Institute for Learning (AIL). Dr. Yacoobi founded AIL in 1995 as a way to provide training, education and healthcare to Afghans, with a particular focus on women and children. In 2005, Dr. Yacoobi was among the 1,000 women nominated to jointly receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

He won a Super Bowl (2013) as Seattle coach and two national champions with the University of Southern California (2003, 2004). He was a standout during his playing career at Pacific, was an assistant coach for the Tigers, and has received the Pacific Distinguished Alumni Award.

With Russia's invasion of Ukraine ongoing, Conservatory of Music Professor Igor Veligan agreed to share his unique perspective about the conflict as a native Ukrainian. Professor Veligan joined the faculty of the Conservatory of Music in the fall of 2006. He holds the Master of Arts in violin performance and chamber music from Odessa State Conservatory, and has taught at the School for the Performing Arts in Ternopil, Ukraine. In Pacific's Conservatory, he teaches violin, viola and chamber music.
