This Pacific Gives, help remove barriers to global learning
Despite growing interest and expanded program offerings, financial need remains the primary barrier to study abroad. Gifts to Pacific Global will help close that gap and open doors for more students to participate, whether in short term, faculty-led programs or full semester and yearlong experiences.
For many University of the Pacific students, studying abroad is out of reach—not because of inability or lack of interest, but because of cost.
Expenses like passports, airfare, housing, books and program fees can quickly become barriers, especially for students who have never traveled internationally. Pacific Global is working to change that.
During Pacific Gives, alumni support will directly fund scholarships and travel assistance, so more students can access study abroad opportunities in over 60 countries.
Study abroad is widely recognized as a high-impact educational experience that strengthens learning outcomes, retention and long-term student success. It also builds the skills employers value most, including resilience, problem solving and cultural fluency.
“Our students are entering an increasingly global, interconnected and competitive world,” said Niraj Chaudhary, dean of university libraries and Pacific Global. “To prepare them, we must ensure access to experiences that build a global perspective, adaptability and confidence. This is especially critical for students who may not otherwise have the opportunity.”
For students like Samantha Monarrez ’27, that support makes all the difference.
“It genuinely changed me,” she said of her semester in Spain. “It changed my mindset and how I see the world. And it wouldn’t have been possible without the support I received from donors. I hope they know the impact they made and how many doors they opened for me.”

Early giving is now open, with gifts up to $100 matched dollar for dollar. During Pacific Gives (April 21 - 22), additional matches and challenges will be available to double or even triple your impact.
